The East Coast premiere of Birdly, Max Rheiner’s immersive flight simulator will allow visitors to soar over Manhattan. As part of the ‘Sensory Stories’ exhibition, Birdly will be on display at New York’s Museum of the Moving Image April 18th until June 9th.
Birdly will be part of ‘Sensory Stories’, an exhibition of interactive project experimenting with new forms of storytelling at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York City. In the past, Birdly – developed at the Zurich University of the Arts ZHDK – has amazed the audiences at swissnex San Francisco and swissnex India alike and recently was in the limelight at the Sundance Film Festival.

Under Pressure - Designing Densified Wood
Soft to the touch, yet as hard and dense as precious tree species from the tropical rainforest, this wood surprisingly stems from fast growing spruce, easy to cultivate in our countries. The EPFL+ECAL Lab, an award winning swiss laboratory exploring the potential of emerging technologies through design, is back in New York to present how the amazing scientific performance of densified wood can be turn into real objects. For the last start-up webinar on the US Market, we analyzed the media landscape in New York and the best strategies to break into Silicon Alley from an entrepreneur’s perspective. We got the best of both worlds with our two expert guests: Bonnie Halper, Editor-in-Chief at AlleyWatch, the tech reference in the Silicon Alley; andFabian Pfortmüller, Co-Founder at Holstee, and a successful Swiss entrepreneur in NYC. Bonnie and Fabian shared their experience with the media and start-up scene in New York and gave our audience tips on how to successfully establish an online presence in Silicon Alley.

Our panel of experts showcased an award-winning Swiss start-up that has attained market leadership using a consumer-focused approach. Coresystems' US subsidiary was established in 2010 and has rapidly grown at 60% year-over-year, currently counting 15,000 users across North America. Recognizing and adapting to consumer preferences and behavioral patterns has been a key ingredient to Coresystems’ success in conquering the US market.
In addition, two academic experts from the Center for Customer Insight at the University of St.Gallen and from the University of Lausanne (HEC) presented the latest research findings in consumer behavior and consumer psychology. .

Diane Artal is an attorney admitted to the bar in the State of New York, as well as in Switzerland. Her practice focuses on startups and companies in the U.S. and abroad in the areas of intellectual property, corporate and commercial law, with an emphasis on cross-border transactions. Prior to joining Rosabianca & Associates PLLC in 2011, Diane practiced as a litigator for three years in Geneva, managing cases relating to contracts, corporate, intellectual property and art law. Diane received her J.D. and Master's Degree with a concentration in Art Law from the University of Geneva, School of Law, in Switzerland. In 2010, she obtained a LL.M in Intellectual Property from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York. Diane is a French native speaker, fluent in Spanish.
The NYC Outpost was instrumental in bringing together the worlds of technology and fashion on September 10, with a day-long exhibition and symposium on wearable tech. The event was organized by the Zero Power Smart Systems Initiative of EPFL and ETHZ, in cooperation with swissnex Boston and its Outpost in New York.

The Swiss National Start-up Team made it to New York in June! The entrepreneurial bootcamp Venture Leaders brings 20 of the most promising tech start-ups from Switzerland to the US for a 10-day business development program. For the first time this year, in addition to a week in the Boston area, the participants got a chance to explore the tech ecosystem of the Silicon Alley between June 18 and 20. Recap: swissnex partnered with Internet Week New York and invited a group of promising Swiss internet start-ups to join the Swiss booth at Metropolitan Pavilion, the epicenter of the Internet Week New York 2014 from May 19- May 23. Swiss entrepreneurs enjoyed a week-long immersion in the New York tech scene.
