The New York Outpost of swissnex Boston attended the 2013 Top 100 Start-up Award Ceremony in Zurich on September 18. The event was organized by the Institute for Young Entrepreneurs (Institut für Jungunternehmen IFJ) in collaboration with Handelszeitung and the Swiss Private Equity & Corporate Finance Association (SECA) .
From over 100,000 young companies founded in the past five years, the 100 most innovative and promising Swiss start-ups were picked by 100 top experts (from business angel networks, investor platforms, coaching program).
The award aims at showcasing the diversity and the quality of Switzerland’s innovation scene. The companies ranked in the Top 100 list covers the medtech, cleantech, biotech, nanotech, software and mobile/internet industries and represent a total of CHF 300 million raised from Investors. They also play an active role on the Swiss job market by contributing to the creation of 2000 qualified jobs in the past 5 years.
For the second consecutive year, HouseTrip is ranked number 1. Founded in 2009 by Arnaud Bertrand, HouseTrip is one of Europe’s largest holiday rental booking websites. The platform already provides more than 250’000 vacation apartments and houses. The company raised a total of 60 million through three investment rounds.
Number 2, ETH-spin-off BioVersys AG focuses on research and development of new drugs and compounds, which switch-off drug resistance within bacterial pathogens and restore the efficacy of approved antibiotics. EPFL-spin-off Abionic is ranked number 3 with a technology to supply physicians with a novel diagnostic tool to detect allergies and provide patients with personal allergy profiles.
