On Thursday February 6th, Cultureamp and General Assembly, an educational institution for entrepreneurs, hosted an outstanding event on the different challenges for the #startupculture facing big changes. The New York Outpost of swissnex was glad to partner with Cultureamp to organize the event.
Executives from Adobe, Tumblr and Etsy were invited to share their thoughts and experiences on how to go through unpredictable times and guide a team through the different challenges specific to start-ups.
Among the different topics, Lindsay Dole, HR Director at Tumblr explained how the start-up culture evolved after the acquisition of Tumblr by the giant Yahoo! and the importance to create a beneficial relationship for both parties by mutual learning and keep its own identity. Katie Hunt-Morr from Etsy discussed the challenge for a start-up to stay aligned with its original values and identity while growing fast. How to help the structural transition from an early stage start-up to an bigger company and the impact on the employees' mind. Ellie Gates, from Adobe, provided a great example of a start-up internationalization and the challenges in its development. With Adobe's recent acquisitions of smaller businesses, she commented on the necessity to preserve the start-up identity into the collaboration.
After interesting discussions around the start-up culture, its many challenges in a times of changes and a Q&A session, people exchanged ideas around a great cocktail.
Pierre Dorsaz from swissnex had the opportunity to picth the New York activities and explain how and why Swiss innovation and New York area are connected and complementary.
