The New York Outpost held its first annual “Back to School” event on Friday, September 25 to great attendance and success. The meet & greet cocktail followed in the footsteps of swissnex Boston's similar event welcoming Swiss students studying in local universities. Mainly geared toward Swiss and Swiss-linked students and researchers who are currently affiliated with a New York-area university, the New York edition attracted over 60 people to the Outpost's new location in Lower Manhattan.
Guests were invited to meet each other, the swissnex team, as well as local alumni chapters of Swiss universities. Presenters included: Ecole hotelière de Lausanne (EHL) Stamm NY, The Graduate Institute of Geneva (IHEID), Club HEC Lausanne in NYC, ETH Zurich Alumni New York Chapter, EPFL Alumni U.S. East Coast, and IMD Alumni Club of NY. Guests hailed from 14 different Swiss universities -- with an especially large contingent in attendance from HSG (over 15 students or alumni) and Zurich University of Applied Sciences, ZHAW (5 people).
In addition to meeting their swissnex hosts and the alumni chapter heads, guests were welcomed by swissnex Boston CEO and Consul Felix Moesner. The organizers and guests were grateful to have in attendance the Consul General of Switzerland in New York (and HSG alumnus) André Schaller. All in attendance got a taste of Swiss cheese and wines. They also had the opportunity to trace their journeys across the Atlantic with our interactive “Connect your dots between Switzerland and the Greater New York Area” map activity. Each string on the map represented a participant journey from their institution in Switzerland to their current institution in New York. The swissnex Boston New York Outpost team would like to extend a big thank you to all those who represented their alumni chapter!
