Our New York office got a fresh look this spring! It moved to another office location within WeWork, with plenty of daylight (what a treat in midst of Manhattan’s asphalt jungle!) and a direct view of the recently finished, iconic tower designed by Swiss architectural firm Herzog & DeMeuron, received a beautiful landscape wallpaper, and has been reinforced with a new Junior Project Manager, 25-year old Oliver Jutzi. Oliver assists Oliver Haugen (Head of the Outpost) with 50 percent of his time. The other 2.5 days a week, he supports his Alma Matter, HEC Lausanne, in maintaining and developing the local alumni network.
Oliver definitely hit the ground running! Barely settled at his new desk, he took charge of the Ticino Delegation, guiding the group through meetings and navigating the city and its subway system. He also helped organize the visit of Mauro Moruzzi, Ambassador at SERI. (SERI is short for State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation, swissnex’s “mother-ship”).
“It’s been a very dynamic couple weeks,” Oliver says. “Right away I got to visit local universities and companies, and met lots of very interesting people”.
Although this Swiss-American dual citizen has experienced life in the U.S. before, New York is different. “This city is awesome.” He visited the big apple as a last stop to cap off a long journey through Mexico and the U.S, and was intrigued. When, shortly after his return to HEC, a call for applications as Jr. Project Manager at swissnex Boston’s New York Outpost popped up on his computer screen, he didn’t hesitate to apply.
Fast forward to spring 2016, Oliver’s dream of living and working in New York has come true. “Living here is very different from life in Lausanne,” he concludes. “It’s at a much faster pace, you’re always busy, never bored.” “My work with swissnex is very inspiring,” he continues. “And I’m also really excited to discover the active Swiss Community here in New York”!
